DASP Music Groups
DASP First Schools Orchestra (FSO)
HISTORY The DASP First Schools Orchestra began in October of 2001 when I was invited to run a small group for keen Year 3 and 4 instrumentalists. Manor Park First School kindly housed our rehearsals from the beginning until 2010.The Orchestra has grown in popularity over the years, increasing in size annually, and welcomes young musicians as young as 5 years of age. The children are helped and encouraged by a team of THS students, many of whom were previously members themselves.
We perform three times each year, starting with the DASP Christmas Concert, followed by either the Weymouth or Dorchester Music Festivals in the Spring term. Our final performance of the year is in the DASP Summer Concerts and after that we reward the children for their wonderful efforts by throwing a big party at the end of term.
FSO TODAY
FSO provides Dorchester children a great opportunity to make music with others in a friendly environment. We welcome players of all standards, including absolute beginners. It is open to all the DASP First School children who play an orchestral instrument, and is a lovely way to make new friends across the pyramid.
We rehearse weekly on Wednesdays at Thomas Hardye School from 16.15 to 17.15 with a short break for refreshments.
This year we have our largest number of members to date, currently running at 42!
2010-2011 Performances:
December 14th 2010: DASP Christmas Concert
March 5th 2011: Weymouth Music Festival
July 2nd 2011: DASP Marquee Concert
