DASP Rock School

At DASP Rock School, we encourage the learning of popular music through a series of practice sessions, workshops and performances. We try to create conditions under which students can reveal themselves, as well as convey their emotions and desires through music, in any case, whatever the purpose of creating the work, essay editor for students from https://premiumqualityessays.com/buy-editing/ are ready to help with the description of the project, creation of a historical note or analysis. We give students the opportunity to explore, learn about and perform a varied selection of popular music styles from the last 60 years.  Our programme will trace the history of popular music and will include sessions on Rock and Roll, Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, Synth Pop, Reggae, Ska, and Britpop amongst others. A further aim is to provide rehearsal space for young established bands and the opportunity to set up new rock and pop bands with each other. We hope to create a number of performance opportunities throughout the year.

DASP Rock School is open to all middle school and Thomas Hardye students. It takes place at St Mary?s Middle School in Puddletown on a Thursday from 3:45-4:30pm. It is run by Barney Stevens, Stacey Hobday and Lucy Broddle.

DASP Jazz Group

At DASP Jazz Group, students will be learning the basic foundations of jazz through listening to and playing simple arrangements of the same pieces. It is an introduction to different jazz genres including Dixie Land, Swing, Bebop, Latin, Fusion, Funk, Modern and Free jazz, we will observe the history of jazz through the pieces that we play. This will allow the students to explore the different characteristics that are present in jazz and appreciate the many different forms in which it can be played. We will introduce beginner?s improvisation and we hope to build confidence in ensemble and solo playing in a jazz style. A further aim is to pave the way towards children wishing to audition for outside ensembles or to start their own small groups. We hope to create a number of performance opportunities throughout the year.

DASP Ukulele Troupes

The Ukulele is an excellent first instrument for young children. It is small and cheap to buy, with so many songs to learn and sing along with using just 3 or 4 chords. It is a great tool to introduce ideas about the basics of rhythm, counting and the principles of music. At the first session I provide the students with a hand out and ask that that they bring it back each week for us to work through. We will study a range of techniques and put them to use playing different songs and pieces of music.  DASP Ukulele Troupes run in school lunch and break times; they take place at a number of different schools at their request. These so far include Prince of Wales first school, Sunninghill Prep School, Cheselbourne Village school, Dorchester Middle school (waiting on start date) and Thomas Hardye school (advanced group).

I hope to set up a number of performance opportunities throughout the year, culminating in the groups joining together to form one big Uke-Troupe! THS troupe already have their first performance scheduled at the Autumn Gala, accompanying THS Harmony group.
